Baby Gypsy: Herr or Her?

So we threw a "Dirndl or Lederhosen?" themed reveal yesterday to announce Baby Gypsy's sex to our families...

Looks like it's time to bust out everything sweet and cutesy for a baby girl! We are so excited to be adding a little girl to our gypsy adventures, but even more happy to say that she appears to be healthy. We've chosen to keep our social media postings rather vague when it comes to Baby Gypsy. Her name will probably remain a secret until birth, and most likely we will not be posting any pictures of her. We feel that since she will be unable to express any opinion about her online presence until she's much, much older, we will respect her privacy by being overly cautious about posting specifics or images. But we'll be happy to share generalities with you and welcome you to share in our joy as we go through the second half of the waiting period leading up to her arrival - the biggest adventure we've ever undertaken!

Any tips from moms, moms-to-be, and non-mothers who have traveled in the near vicinity of infants while dying to express an opinion on how to do it better? ;) We're tentatively planning on a March trip to Germany to introduce her to that side of the family, but she'll be less than three months old. Any suggestions on how to travel easily with a baby would be welcomed!

  1. Congrats again to you guys! And I'm totally with you on the privacy things. I don't think I'd feel right sharing my kid's entire life online before they have the choice.

    1. Thanks, Emily! Yeah, part of me is torn because I want to "show off" my kid on FB to family and friends, haha. But at the same time, I don't want them to be 1) super embarrassed when they're teenagers and see their whole life online, and 2) have their identity compromised because I put too much specific information on there or clues for predators to get a hold of them. While I may have control over my friend list on FB, if a relative/friend were to share the picture, I have no control over their friend list. So it just kind of seems like a better idea to just keep it off FB/IG and just have a direct email to out of state friends and family.

    1. Thanks, Dana! I am too - although I'm sure it's going to be daunting and a handful the first go-round! I need to work on streamlining my packing skills.

    1. Thanks, Polly! We're stoked... and terrified... all at the same time. I guess that's normal?

  5. Travelling with a three-month-old is much easier than travelling with a one-year-old. Airlines usually have special cots (no idea how to put it) for little babies, so that they can sleep on the way across the ocean. Just make use the baby is swallowing on the start and landing of the plain, when the pressure is changing. Or, as one of my kids, is asleep, so then the baby doesn't care ;) And congratulations on having a little girl! :)

  6. How exciting! And what a cute way to announce the gender to your family as well. I completely respect your decision to keep your children off of social media. Every family approaches the subject differently and it's up to each family to make those calls.

  7. Congratulations - and I hear you totally on keeping bebe off the blog - I'm not sure how I'd feel having my pics all over the interwebs!

  8. Love the privacy decision, good for you guys! As a non-mom, I'd say if she's crying, just don't stop trying to calm her down. The moms who just ignore their kids' wailing is the WORST. I can cope as long as you keep caring! Oh, and never leave the sound "on" on their devices...but you probably won't be dealing with that until later! Let me know if you have any spare moments in your March itinerary, and I'll do my best to meet you where you are!!!
